About

Beside Igreja Matriz São Domingos, Casa nº 1 was the home of ensign Manoel Ferreira Porto. Its earliest construction phase is dated to 1802–1806, and Auguste de Saint-Hilaire’s 1820 visit to Torres records the local commander’s residence.

Tradition links the house to Emperor Pedro I’s travels, although the municipal source notes that historians debate whether he stayed there. The official page gives no indoor visiting hours; check arrangements before entering.
